Coronavirus Update

June 1, 2020

We are finally open!  We are anxious like many of you to get things back to normal.  However, for the safety of our patients and staff, we are temporarily modifying our normal business hours and services as a precautionary measure.

All routine and urgent care services are by appointment only.  We will schedule a time for those picking up glasses or contact lenses, adjustments or repairs, as well as those desiring to view our frame dispensary without an eye exam scheduled.  In addition, to limit the number of individuals in our office at one time, we request that only the individual being seen (and their guardian if needed) enter the office.

Our office hours until further notice will be Monday 9am-6pm, Wednesday, and Thursday 9am-5pm, and Tuesday and Friday from 9am-2pm.  For the safety of everyone, we will require a mask to be worn by anyone entering the office.  Anyone that has knowingly been exposed to a COVID-19 individual within the past 2 weeks, or has exhibited symptoms of fever, cough, or shortness of breath, we ask that you reschedule your routine care appointment.  If you have eye symptoms or urgent eyecare needs with recent COVID-19 symptoms or exposure, we are happy to make special arrangements to make sure that you are evaluated in a timely manner and with no exposure to others.

If you should have any questions, please call our office at 517-622-2020 and we will be happy to assist you however we can.  We sincerely appreciate everyone that has been so patient and understanding during this extended closure due to the pandemic.

Sincerely,

Dr. Schmitzer & Staff

May 15, 2020

Shelter-in-place order has been extended until May 28, 2020.  We are hoping for a June 1, 2020 start to routine care.  If there is a need for eye services before that date, please let us know.

April 29, 2020

We continue to follow the shelter-in-place order with an official reopen date tentatively scheduled for May 18, 2020.  Any routine exams that were scheduled for May 4th through May 8th are being rescheduled at this time.  Exams scheduled for May 13th through May 17th will remain for now in the event that the order is lifted early for eye care services.  We will keep you informed as these appointment dates get closer.  If there is an urgent need for eye care, please call our office at 517-622-2020 and leave a message.  We will contact you as soon as possible.  You may also text us at 517-622-2020 or contact us through email at gloptometry@yahoo.com

April 15, 2020

We continue to follow the shelter-in-place order for the State of Michigan through April 30th, 2020.  Our tentative reopen date will be Monday, May 4th, 2020 at this time.  We continue to monitor our voicemail, email, and text messages throughout the day.  If you have any need for urgent care services, please let us know and we will assist you as soon as possible.

March 23, 2020

Due to the shelter-in-place order from Governor Whitmer today, Grand Ledge Optometry will be closed from March 23, 2020 until April 13, 2020.  We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you updated as to our office hours.  All routine examinations that were scheduled for this time period have been cancelled at this time.  Staff will reschedule your appointment as soon as we are able to.

We are available for eye emergencies!  Please call our office at 517-622-2020 and leave a voicemail, or contact us via email or text.  Staff will monitor messages throughout the day and someone will contact you regarding your condition as soon as possible.  Please avoid going to the emergency room or an urgent care center prior to contacting our office.  Most eye emergencies can be treated in our office or managed by phone consultation.

For any contact lens patients that have less than a 3-month supply remaining, and are not having any problems, you may contact us to place an order.  We will directly ship them to you free of any shipping charges.  If your contact lens prescription is expired, we will extend your prescription on a case-by-case basis to allow you to continue with contact lens wear until we can see you.  Please do not extend the wearing period of your contact lenses beyond the recommended replacement time.  Proper hygiene when handling your contact lenses is still highly advised.

We apologize to those that have glasses or contacts on order that were sent to the office and are still waiting to pick them up.  We ask that you try to manage with what you are currently wearing while the mandatory shelter-in-place is enforced.  If there is an emergency regarding eyewear, please let us know and we will do our best to assist you.  Thanks again for your patience and understanding!

March 18, 2020

To our Valued Patients:

Due to the national emergency pertaining to the COVID-19 virus and recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Grand Ledge Optometry has adjusted its normal business operations and hours.  As of today, we have restricted appointments only to those requiring treatment of urgent conditions or emergency eye care.  Our office will be closed Monday, March 23 until Monday, April 6.  If there is a need for emergency consultation or care during our closing, we will be available by phone, email, or text to determine an appropriate course of action.

If you are currently scheduled for a routine appointment, staff will be contacting you shortly to reschedule your visit for a later date and time.  We request that any existing orders for glasses or contact lenses be picked up after April 6.  If your eyewear or contact lens order is urgent, please call our office for an appointment or other arrangements to dispense these items to you.

We remain committed to the health of our patients, staff, and our families during this difficult time.  As this is a rapidly changing development, further updates will be included on our website, through email, text, and voicemail recording.  If you should have any questions or concerns, please call our office at (517) 622-2020.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and cooperation and stay safe!
